Gordon had previously been in the 8th (Colchester) Battalion Essex Home Guard. He was part of the Lamarsh Platoon. He is recorded as transferring to the 10th (Sudbury) Battalion Suffolk Home Guard for "attachment to Essex and Suffolk A.U.". This shows that Auxiliary Units were perhaps not as secret as intended, thanks to the requirement for all postings to be recorded.
