The date 6th March 1942 is recorded by his address on the nominal roll. This could be the date of him becoming Sergeant.
Born in Marylebone, London he served as Stoker K58095 in the Royal Navy from Sept 1919 to Sept 1931. When he enlisted a note is written above his first posting to say he had already served 4 years in the Army and these would count towards his pension. From Dec 1930 he declined any engagement abroad so was based in Devonport.
He is recorded as 5 foot 4 inches with brown hair, blue eyes and a fresh complexion. He has tattoos on both forearms. He married Edith Matthews in 1920.
