Private Edward Cyril "Cy" Hessel

Biography
Left before stand down when the Patrol was disbanded. He is wrongly recorded on the nominal roll as C.E. Hessel.
A WW1 veteran he served as a Lieutenant in Canadian Expeditionary Force. In July 1916, he received a shrapnel wound to his right arm and the arm was amputated 3 inches above the elbow while in the trenches at Ypres. He studied agriculture in Canada and returned to England to farm.

Other information
The family moved during the war to Codlaw Hill, Wall, Northumberland (around 1943) where he took a post with MAFF to advise farmers on food production and new farming techniques.
He died in 1968 at Kingclere, Hampshire aged 72.
