Lance Corporal Donald Brown died aged 31 on 21st April 1941. His funeral at St Nicholas' Church, Thelnetham, was recorded in the Diss Express. It is openly recorded that he was a member of the Auxiliary Unit of West Norfolk Scout Section which was run by Lieutenant Martin.
He was buried with full military honours, with his coffin draped with the Union flag and conveyed to the church in an Army lorry. Lieutenant Martin and other members of the West Norfolk Scout Section were in attendance, along with his wife and parents. His brother, a sapper with the Royal Engineers, was unable to attend as he was posted so far away. His comrades fired a volley over the grave. Also in attendance were a number of locals, with flowers left by his pals from the White Horse, Thelnetham and the The Northgate Street Club in Ipswich.
