Dr. MacCowan mentioned to his son that he had been in the resistance and had attended training. There are no nearby Auxiliary Units Patrols and Doctors were frequently recruited to the Special Duties Branch. It was expected that after an invasion they would still be allowed to operate behind the enemy lines.
A native of Dunheanish, Oban, Argyleshire he qualified in 1924 from the University of Glasgow. He practiced as a GP in West Malling and Snodland for 37 years before his retirement in 1964. He was a WW1 veteran and in his younger days was fond of skating and shooting and sailing small boats. He was also known as Dhul Alistair and Dugald Alexander. He married Dorothy Agnes Thomson in Glasgow 29 Dec 1929.
