Christopher worked as a baker in the Village store, Post Office and bakery run by his father Albert Budden. A small claim to fame was that the store was illustrated in Enid Blyton’s, “Six Cousins at Mistletoe Farm”, published in 1948, whose illustrator Peter Biegel included several scenes from the village.
Although it has been suggested that Budden’s Coaches was set up after the war by Christopher’s brother Peter, who was away with the RAF until September 1945, the Budden Bros company were running a four day a week coach service to Salisbury from the village before the war. In 1967 Christopher and his brother left the business to Peter.
In 1946 he married Margaret Lillian Manning. Remarkably Christopher never spoke of his wartime activities, even to his wife. The day before his death, he confided to his daughter on his deathbed about his role with Auxiliary Units.
