The son of Thomas and Emma Chambers. He married Ethel Munckton 23 March 1918.

Headmaster
In 1939 he is living at Quarr House School, Manchester Road, Sway, Hampshire. The girls boarding school was ran by him and his wife Ethel (nee Muckton), who looked after the educational side and Bernard running the business side. He was a retired civil engineer. By 1951 he had returned to Quarr House School in Hampshire so it appears the school may have moved during the war. There are reports that a Canadian tank regiment were stationed at Quarr House and it may have been used as a PoW camp.
In Auxiliary Units he is promoted to Second lieutenant 22st October 1942, then to Lieutenant 1st May 1943 and Captain 17th August 1944. Defence Medal Awarded.
In 1920 the family moved to Singapore and Bernard is recorded as a civil engineer.
A WW1 veteran he served in the Royal Engineers as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was awarded the Military Cross in 1918.
