Biography
Francis Bernard is corrected to Bernard Francis in the 1939 Register. He was the son of James and Margaret. Known as Barney and was a colourful character, some time farm worker and quarryman. Also a local footballer of note and keen hunt follower. Called an "incorrigible rake" - "Lock up your daughters, here comes Barney" sums him up. He was the brother-in-law of Assistant Group Commander Second Lieutenant "Mick" Mitchell.
