He was the son of the Air Vice Marshall (as he was in 1941) Arthur Harris, later to become Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir Arthur Travers Harris, GCB, OBE, AFC, more commonly known as "Bomber" Harris from his role in charge of Bomber Command from Feb 1942.
During his time at Bingham's Melcombe, he was visited by his sister Rosemary on 18 Sep 1941. She had been at school in Weymouth. His other sister was serving with FANY (First Aid Nursing Yeomanry).
After the war he returned to visit Lady Grogan on 21 Sep 1946, giving his address at the time as Bembridge.
He never married and had no children. In 1984, on the death of his father, he became the second baronet of Chepping Wycombe, the title dying out with him.

In 1939 he was recorded to be Lance Corporal 6898634 in A Company, 2nd battalion Queen Victoria's Rifles, a Territorial Army unit which was a motorcycle reconnaissance unit for the 2nd London Division.
