The son of Alfred and Harriet Bailey, he was the brother of Auxilier Charles.
Anthony talked to Adrian Hoare for his book; Standing up to Hitler (1997). He never spokes about his Auxiliary Units role until later in life. His Granddaughter recalled he tried to join the RAF but was refused due to being in a reserved occupation and having a hammer toe ! "He used to tell my grandma he was out lambing and they would be learning how to make booby traps with grenades".

The Bailey name appears 3 times in the Nominal Roll as either A or Anthony but is corrected on two of these to C A, or C A F. His brother was Charles Alfred Fisher Bailey.
Later in life he called himself Anthony Josiah Fisher-Bailey. Fisher was his mother’s maiden name.
