Angus was born in St Peter's Parish in Herefordshire to Scotsman, John Wilson, a seed merchant, and his wife Rachel.
He worked for the family firm J. Wilson Ltd. on Commercial Street. Educated at Clyde House School he joined the Royal Flying Corps on 16 Nov 1915, his civilian occupation being described as motorcyclist. The enlistment document records his height as 5' 9 and a half inches and his chest as 35 and a half inches. He served in France as a driver from the 19 Mar 1916 until 22 Mar 1918 including with the Balloon Section. As a result he became one of the founder members of the RAF on 1 Apr 1918. After discharge on 30 April 1920 he returned to the family business.
He was well known in horticultural circles and often exhibited in shows. He was also well known as a sportsman; he was a member of the crew of Hereford Rowing Club, winning the West of England Challenge Cup in 1921. He also excelled in boxing and rugby (representing the Royal Flying Corps during the war), and at football and billiards. Angus was a member of Military and Constitutional and Farmers clubs.
Angus died from cancer at the age of 51. At his funeral on Wednesday 20 Sep 1944 the Auxiliers, under Lieutenant Hughie Hall formed a guard of honour.
