Known as Robbie he was promoted to Group 3 Commander and given the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, then Lieutenant on 1st June 1943, and Captain from 1st August 1944.

In 1939 he is an ARP Warden.

Robbie joined the Navy and served between 1925 and 1932. It is recorded he was a school teacher at the time. He contracted polio while in China. This left him with a weakened arm and nearly paralysed hip and his discharge from the Navy. He overcame these disabilities to become Captain and lead a very active life in farming after the war and travelled extensively all over the world. The son of Albert and Mabel Robertson. He married Ethel Mildred Williams in 1934.
