Civil servant, ships accounts
Born in Bristol the family moved to Bath when he was 2. He was originally a messenger in the ARP. When he started work as a Civil Servant he joined the Local Defence Volunteers then quickly recruited to the Auxiliary Units.
He left Auxiliary Units September 1941 and became a Non Commissioned Officer serving as navigator Fight Sergeant 1337760 with 214 Squadron RAF. Along with other places he trained in Canada. He had to wait for news of his family after the Blitz of Bath.
He was shot down and became a Prisoner of War in Dulag Luft, Oberursel, Stalag Luft VI, Heydekrug and Stalag 357 Fallinbostel, Germany, 1943-1945.

Alfred married Pauline Baker in Bath in 1951. He became a keen cricketer after the war.
