Derek Boughton, the son of Frederick Boughton, recalled his father saying they had their OB in the woods at Acrise.
This appears to be a different site to what was recorded in 2010 by Kent Historic Environment Record. This states; Following a conversation with a local Forestry Commission Ranger a visit to the site was made by Kent Underground Research Group members in March 2010.
A local farmer had known one of the members of the local Auxiliary Units who had described the site and location which he had passed on to the Ranger. The farmer had visited the site ‘many years ago’ and had been inside the bunker which consisted of a low narrow tunnel leading to a much larger chamber cut in the chalk.
Kent Underground Research Group found the entrance in the eastern face of an old chalk quarry face near Park Gate Down Nature Reserve. The small tunnel which was almost obscured by slippage from the old quarry face was found to be blocked by a major roof fall after a few metres.
The entrance to the OB was covered by a roll of netting into which vegetation had been woven. Presumably, this means the entrance was horizontal into a bank rather than a vertical shaft.
