The accounts of Auxiliary Units Intelligence Officers frequently mention the issue of their Humber Snipe Staff Car. It was unusual for a Captain to be issued with a car like this, but they were invaluable for traveling around their area. General Montgomery used an open top version of this car in the African desert and subsequently in Europe.
The car came with an RASC driver who usually also acted as the officer’s Batman.
There were also six Humber Staff cars at Coleshill House for the use of the officers on the staff. A request for tyres in Sep 1943 lists the serial numbers as M190664, M1154357, M1154358, M1154739, M1154799, all Humber Snipes, along with M4948237, an impressed (formerly civilian) Humber car.
