Auxiliary Units Headquarters at Coleshill had at least 3 Commer 3 ton 4x2 lorries, whose serial numbers were recorded in a request for replacement tyres. A letter refers to two of the lorries being used to deliver stores and supplies for the Special Duties Branch right across the country.
The lorry numbers were L621053, L622259 and L622260.
The Q4 was produced in large numbers through the war. It was a General Service load carrier. Some went to Russia and others to Denmark after the war which is perhaps why none appear to survive in the U.K. as preserved military vehicles. In the 1950s Commer built another lorry named the Q4 and many of these do survive as they were part of the Civil Defence reserve.
