FAQ

What is CART?

The Coleshill Auxiliary Research Team (CART) are a group of volunteer researchers and supporters who investigate and record the World War 2 Auxiliary Units. Findings are published on the British Resistance Archive website and constantly updated.

CART is non-profit making and the website is maintained by donations and the revenue it makes from the sale of various items sold in the shop.

Who set up CART?

The Coleshill Auxiliary Research Team was set up in June 2009 by Tom Sykes after he was informed about Coleshill House, near Highworth, Wiltshire and its wartime involvement. Tom set up a website as it seemed the easiest way to collate the information he was finding out.

Who manages CART?

CART is managed by a group of volunteers running as an association.

Do you withhold any information?

CART does withhold certain files and for various reasons. The first is that some information is donated to CART for internal research on the condition that they don’t publish it. In the main this research does end up on the site in some form, after due care has been given to ensure the owner(s) of the material are happy for it to be published. The second reason is that some of what CART holds internally is copyright and publishing this would mean they could be prosecuted.

How can I support CART?

Please see the Donate page - you can donate money, time or information! We always welcome new information and insights about any aspects of our research.

How do I know the information on your site is correct?

Our Team do all they can to ensure the information they publish is accurate. They spend hundreds of hours each year visiting sites, in archive centres, libraries and on-line as well as reading all the published work on the subject and networking with other researchers. This bit of history is still very secret and much is still hidden. It takes time for them to obtain the information and because of this our website is being constantly updated. We always welcome new intelligence to help us get the most accurate picture possible.

Why do you publish a patrol report which contains very little information?

We publish what we do know, making it clear the research is far from complete and then let the public confirm and help fill in the blanks. We prefer to provide a skeleton report which may lead to further information.

Who do I contact if I want to use some information from your site?

See Contact us

Why do you need donations for just a website?

We are far more than just a website. Our ongoing website costs are expensive but we also spend money in other areas.

What does the money go on?

Donations will be spent on website hosting fees and items like outreach materials. CART researchers need materials to hand out, flyers and posters etc and these all cost money. We also have to pay for web development, when it cannot be done in-house. Not one penny of your money goes to pay any CART researcher for their time.

What do I get for my money?

What you do get is the knowledge that your money will be helping us piece together our history. We have already been able to inform relatives of Auxiliers that their loved ones did serve during World War Two and this has made them so very happy and proud. Your money helps us grow and develop, as well as offering a greater level of outreach and promoting an awareness of these brave men and women.

Do I have to have a PayPal account to donate?

Not at all. If you have a PayPal account it is quicker.  If not don’t worry, you want you can set one up in less than 2 minutes.

Can I pay directly into your CART account?

Yes, that is no problem. Please contact us to do that.
