June/July 1944. Parachuted into France at night as Major, Commander of “D” Squadron, 1st SAS, in “Operation Gain” with some 60 men in the vicinity of Orleans, together with a number of Jeeps.  On Monday, 7 August, 1944 Major Fenwick, an F.F.I Officer, Sergeants W.P. Duffy, F.W. Dinkley and Lance Corporal Meginou carried out a successful attack on a German convoy, Then on the way back were themselves ambushed. Major Fenwick and Lance Corporal Meginou were killed. He is buried at Chambon-La-Foret Communal Cemetery.
